What is Thorax SSM and how does it work?

Thorax SSM (Spine Support Module) is a spinal support (orthosis) with back guidance from the base of the pelvis to the shoulders and provides support when standing or sitting for long periods, walking or lifting. The carbon frame ensures optimum load distribution when lifting and carrying heavy loads as well as when carrying rucksacks or other loads on the back. The anatomical design ensures that all muscle groups are specifically utilised while providing maximum safety for the spine. Straight posture in all types of movement thus contributes to stabilisation.

What activities can the Thorax SSM be worn for?

The Thorax SSM can be used in a wide variety of areas, e.g. in industry, logistics, healthcare or administration when carrying, standing or sitting. It can also be worn at home, e.g. for manual work, to relieve and protect the spine.

What material is the thorax SSM made of?

Most of the components of the Thorax SSM are made of high-quality T800 carbon fibre. The back brace, including the carrying straps, is additionally reinforced with a combination of aramid and glass fibre. This means that the Thorax SSM offers complete safety for the spine. All parts that come into contact with the body are fitted with padding.

What does the Thorax SSM weigh?

The weight depends on the size selection. The smallest model weighs 690 grams and the largest version is only 930 grams.

How many components does the Thorax SSM consist of?

The Thorax SSM consists of 6 parts, the back and shoulder straps, two centre clasps, a pelvic clasp, a chest plate and straps with magnetic fasteners.

Which size suits me?

The Thorax SSM can be customised as it consists of individual elements. By completing our measurement form, we can make a good assessment in advance of which sizes are optimal. How long can the Thorax SSM be worn at a stretch during the day?

The Thorax SSM can be worn throughout the entire working day. During the test phase, the professional fire brigade wore it for up to 24 hours at a time.

How do you set the thorax SSM correctly?

In order for the Thorax SSM to successfully relieve and protect the body, it is important that it is customised to the body. We arrange a fitting when the order is placed. For larger companies, we can also train employees internally.

What does a payload optimisation of 40 % mean?

The Thorax SSM is designed to transfer the punctual forces that act on the spine when carrying heavy loads to the entire body - by shifting them to the pelvis. This optimises the forces acting on the body by 40 %.

Can the Thorax SSM be worn under workwear?

Yes, the Thorax SSM can be worn under work clothing. A thin functional shirt with sleeves should be worn under the Thorax SSM to avoid friction and pressure marks on the skin. In most cases, the Thorax SSM is no longer visible under work jackets and is therefore protected from dust and dirt at the same time.

How do you clean the Thorax SSM?

The Thorax SSM should be cleaned regularly with water and commercially available cleaning agents. Dry completely after cleaning. Remove all cleaning agent residues completely. Thoroughly disinfect the product at least once a week. Disinfect daily in case of heavy use. The Thorax SSM can also be washed in the washing machine at max. 60 °C in the washing bag provided. Appropriate instructions are supplied with the purchase.

We are currently working with the employers' liability insurance associations on a general subsidy. Until then, you can submit an application to the employers' liability insurance association yourself and obtain funding.
